Hey Hey Hey...Goodbye

I'm a teeny bit on the nervous side...

As of tomorrow morning at 8:30am I will be fast asleep in the Oral Surgeon's surgical room having my wisdom teeth removed. This is my first surgery ever...that's why I'm nervous. Well, that and the fact that I'm staying with my parents that day and night and I'm hoping my mother won't drive me crazy. I've also made my Dad swear that he will NOT take any pictures of me sleeping, awake or in any other state. He's gets a little trigger happy with his camera.

Therefore my friends...I will be away from my blog for a few days while my head is swollen, I'm drinking purified food and popping pain pills. I promise to visit everyone's blogs as soon as possible.

When I woke up after the IV anesthetic I thought the walls were closing like a trash compactor. And I kept spitting up tons of bloody cotton.

The only bad thing is...I don't really like ice cream that much.

Hey, you'll be fine. Be sure you get the IV, it's way better than local anesthetic. You probably will have "chipmunk cheeks", at least for a little bit, but those usually go down within a few hours of the surgery. Plus I think all the cotton and stuff in your mouth contributes to the chipmunk look.

Stock the fridge with lots of popsicles, pudding, yogurt, and other non-chewable food. You'll appreciate them in your days of having a sore mouth.

And when it comes to pain pills - they will be your best friends. When I had my wisdom teeth out, my oral surgeon prescribed antibiotics and a pain med with codeine in it. Goooood stuff. I basically slept for the next 3-4 days.

But here's my advice to you: Be very, very gentle to your mouth and gums while they are healing. If you don't push it with the solid foods, you will heal faster than you would expect. You'll be fine. Just don't get yourself all worked up about it. :)

No worries. If your experience is like mine, the doctor will ask you to count backwards from 10 while you inhale nitrous oxide (laughing gas, you'll love it). You'll try to concentrate and get all the way to one, but realize that everything is over by the time you get to five and end up counting the rest of the way just because. Then you'll spend the next few days with enough codeine to repell any motherly harassment (hooray for doctor sanctioned opiates).

Anyway, my parents were about 6000 miles away in Europe when I had mine taken out in high school, so I was home alone and stayed in their bed (it was the only one with a TV near it) for 4 days with my bottle of codeine and a whole lot of soup. It was an unfortunate waste of a 'home alone' situation.

Good luck!! Mine were a piece of cake, my sister had a hard time. I was supposed to be watching her and drive her home. In the parking lot she wandered off and knocked into someones mirror cause she was so stoned from the meds, i just laughed. When we got home i took pics of her sleeping with those tampon cotton pads, hanging out of her mouth LOL. I could come down and help watch you if you'd like LOL.

I just had one done last week and although it didn't really trouble me too much, I'm sure four wisdom teeth all at once will be a different story.

soups and yogurt are good soft foods ... jello and pudding too ...

hope you heal up quick ... take care!

It's Friday morning, seven forty here, so...eight forty there??

I know someone who's sleeping!

I hope to God it goes even better than expected and that you feel as little pain as absolutely possible.

Best of luck to you, Linny me gal!

I'll be thinking of you.

Your friend,
~ Ash

Best of luck... it won't be too bad...

I had all of my wisdom teeth out when I was 18, and just recently (November) had 4 more taken out to make room for my braces.

You'll be fine :)

I remember getting mine yanked like 10 years ago... For me, getting knocked out was optional. They were just going to use a local, and I laughed and said, "No, I'm paying for a general thank you very much". I have a hard enough sitting through a filling, I knew there was no way I was sitting through my wisdom teeth getting yanked.

On the other hand, having an excuse to drink milkshakes and call that dinner is kind of nice.

I got knocked out too! No way I wanted to be awake for the yanking and pulling. And watch out for dry socket. I guess that can be a real drag! Take good care!

Good luck! You'll do just fine. But be sure to really play up the "sick girl" role- ya know.. have your parents cook for you, clean for you, bake you cookies, buy you magazines..... all the good stuff. :)

When I had mine pulled I confessed to the nurse it was better than any drugs I had ever done. I was so out of it. She told me before it started that teen boys often hit on them when they are under.

I'm sure you will be fine.
