So, tis the season to make new decisions regarding life, love and happiness. I've thought long and hard about what I want out of this new year and I've come to a decision. I want a clean slate. I want to have a fresh start and I want to make 2006 more about doing stuff for myself instead of worrying about work, friends and family. It's time that I come first for once...otherwise I'm just going to lose my mind. I tried to work on this task last year but it didn't work out so well due to unforseen events. However...this is a year of no excuses. I've already started putting money away in another checking account for the year's expenses.
I want to travel...the last vacation I had was when I was like 19....and I want to see more than just the typical Florida Beach like most Georgians do. I want to go overseas. I bought an Atlas and I'm currently circling places that I want to visit. Now I know I'll probably only make one international visit this year but there are lots of places I want to go in the future.
Currently circled: Brazil, New Zealand, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Russia and Italy. If anyone knows of any other nice countries to visit..please let me know.
Plans for this year:
1. Skydiving
2. Travel
3. Ride in a hot air balloon
4. More trips to the High Museum of Art
5. Visit the planetarium
6. Visit the Fernbank Museum
7. Visit the recently opened Georgia Aquarium (the biggest aquarium in the world)
8. Write more
9. Get a massage
10. Lose 15 lbs
11. Rent a convertible and take a road trip to somewhere I've never been
12. While on vacation create an alias to go by and be that person while on my trip
The list will get longer as I think of more things that I want to do...if anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to let me know. This year is about living my life to the fullest.

Linny - happy new "you" year - 2006 will be all about you!
he he, come to England and I can guarantee striking off 2, 3, 9, 11 and 12!
Germany is very dull except Berlin... Scotland? Hmm... Ireland is better and what's wrong with England?!?! To add to your list Hungary, Denmark, China, Galapagos Islands, Mauritius, Maldives, Belize, Australia (just Sydney) and... and... London. he he
Fab list Linny!
This is definitely the year for great big leaps and infinite good times!
You have a very great list of countries. There is an irish airline called Ryan Air - log onto www.ryanair.co.uk, where if you do it right, you can get flights around Europe for as little as £1 (plus airport tax £15) and those are two-way. They fly out of several airports in the UK and that way you can cross off Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Sweden and Italy all in one go. Start from one end of the list and work your way to the other. Any help you need planning, let me know :-)
Certain countries are expensive to visit, accomodation etc, worth looking into, if you are on a budget as you will get much more of a holiday (once your flight is paid for) in a country, where your dollars will stretch.
Nice plans too. And seemingly easily do-able. Yep, I've a feeling you'll be doing all those and so much more this year.
Wishing you a fun, adventurous, exciting gloriously happy new year full of new and wonderful experiences!
:-)
Amendment on the price, lol. Just logged on, at the moment they are Free on certain dates, so its just airport tax.
Another thing, airport tax can vary - that's the string attatched, you have to make sure you total is small, which could in some cases mean taking a flight that costs £10 rather than the one that is free. Its just keeping on at it, until you find the cheapest. Last flight I bought was a return Denmark-London-Denmark, total cost £20 ca. 45 US dollars.
Linny,
I've been overseas a few times, and Asia's probably one of my favorites. More specifically...
Thailand is fun, has a few historic places to visit, and the people are really nice there. But half the fun in Thailand is the shopping... I guess their economy is bad, so the exchange rate is ridiculously awesome (for us, not them), and you can buy all kinds of souvenirs, clothes, purses and bags, wallets, gift-y items - oh, you name it, you can buy it cheap, they've got it all. Thailand is more of an adult place to visit, since it's got shopping and stuff. Not very interesting for a five year old. Oh, and food is awesome.
China is also a neat place to visit. It's a huge country, but I will venture to say that the entire country is pretty interesting. I went to Beijing, Xi'an, and Guilan. I remember going to a valley in Beijing that was filled with emperors' tombs - almost like the Valley of the Gods in Egypt. And these emperors were from a dynasty that believed (similar to egyptians) that there was an afterlife and you had to be buried with your riches to be wealthy in the afterlife. Fascinating. We also got to go to the Forbidden City - an entire walled-in "city" that (in years past), the emperor was not allowed to leave. And of course the Great Wall... very cool. Huge. Pretty amazing. The coolest place we visited in Xi'an was Emperor Qin's TerraCotta Army. See, Qin was a really paranoid emperor who ordered thousands and thousands of terracotta soldiers and horses to be built and buried near his grave. Thousands, I kid you not. Each soldier has a different facial expression, which is one of the most amazing things about it all. The soldiers were buried for 2200 years, discovered about 30 years ago, and now you can tour the site and museum. Very unbelievable. Guilan was the place to go shopping. Lots of good shopping there, too, and good prices.
Portugal! It's my favourite european country (apart from Iceland).
Iceland is awesome, but prohibitively expensive (like Japan).
while it's not technically a country ... I hear Guam is nice ;)
here's hoping your resolutions come to fruition!
Take a road trip to Niagara....You'll love it!
Happy new year. May I suggest Sydney, Australia. Was there for 2 weeks for New Years in 2000. Best place. If you like to drink and chill, this is the place.
Happy New Year hun! Sounds like a fun year ahead...
Mexico was nice, and the eastern coast and western coast are very different. The Gulf side is very Americanized, while the Pacific side is very traditional. Beautiful country - and warm - which matters when you're from the cold country... LOL
Add England and Austria... The last time I was in Germany there was still a big fence through the middle of it with machinegun nests and mine fields... But Munich is a really fun town, especially during the Oktoberfest...
Definitely get a massage...and travel. For sure :) Happy New Year!!!
I disagree with PP...no Niagara it's boring but Toronto would be good times :)
Japan was really interesting though a bit pricey....i say just go anywhere and everywhere you'll have a great time and experience new things.
linny - wishing you a new year full of everything you desire... and then everything you desire a second time!
Happy New Year! Your to o liest this year should provide some very exciting blog entries! Dont forget about us while on your great adventures! Best Wishes!
Come to New Zealand! We have amazing scenery, a really laid back attitude and lots of sheep. Its a great place to visit and an even better place to live.
Happy new year to you. I'm sure you will have an awesome 2006!! Arizona and Utah are beautiful places; Sedona in AZ and Valley of the Fods in Utah.
Do a missions trip through a local church, you will never be the same. Now if I could just do as I say!
What about Paris??
"We'll always have Paris." :)
Hope you're happy and healthy enough to make it through that list, and then some. Hope you have a great year, no matter where you go, or who you pretend to be: you'll always have yourself, this place, your writing, us, and me.
Ha. Another rhyme!
~ Ash
Great list, Linny! :)
The only reason I said Niagara is because we're here....If you canme to Niagara, you could come visit us. Dont listen to Miss Ash.
Scottland ... specifically York. It's one of my favorite cities with the original viking wall surround the city and the coolest town crier. And men in kilts, oh my!
I would have to say Amsterdam.
Awww... your list is great. I'm jealous. My list includes: SURVIVAL. That's it. :)
And P.S.... places to visit... circle St. Thomas! :)
This is my first time visiting your blog, and so I did not get to read much...but I wanted to tell you that I think it is awesome that you are living your life for you this year! Sounds like you have some awesome ideas. Good luck with them all!!
I love your idea of being someone else while on a trip. If you can pull off an accent you should try. You may have inspired me to start thinking about what I want to accomplish this year.
aww great new resolutions Linny!
Live life to the fullest always...
Happy New Year babez!
Keshi.
Hey Linny, Good luck with being selfish this year. I'd love to see you chronicle each and every attempt to cross things off of your list of things to do. I have a question for you. Could you e-mail me? Don't worry, it's not some kind of weird internet stalker thing.
Currently circled: I’d suggest Peru (Macchu Pichu), and Spain (all over). I’m with you on Ireland and I’m always willing to visit Scotland again. I would also suggest an African safari.
Plans for this year: Who’s been watching The Wedding Crashers? I have never laughed so much! I nearly fell out of my chair I was laughing so hard. Te rest of them sound like fun (no surfing or scuba diving?) and of course, I have to put in my destination for your convertible road trip... Calgary, during the first week of July. It’s Calgary Stampede, the largest outdoor show on earth. And one of the biggest parties, too!
tell yourself you're a great blogger, Linny!
And Happy NY :-)
Thank you to everyone for the wonderful suggestions! My little list is getting so long! :0)
Autumn, I've bookmarked that sight...thanks so much for all the info. You're wonderul.
Phil...e-mail is on it's way.
Happy New Year Linny,
Lots of luck to ya girl.
Hope u do get that vacation.
Happy New Year Linny! I think it's going to be fabulous!
Happy New Year. This is the first year I hadn't explicitly decided on some things to work on. I think I'll just go with trying to be better all around - workwise, healthwise, etc.
Japan. Duh. Fat white people are Boring.
Great list linny! I am too paranoid to travel to another country! Terriosts, bombs, anti-american horse's ass', bad water....eeck! I hope you are able to make it though! Happy New Year!

Kt Mae
the good news is, all of those things are realistically do-able...and sound like fun!!! As for the skydiving...it's terribly addictive...so jump carefully! ;)
Nice Countries to visit - don't forget Iceland. :-D
