They're Not Laughing WITH You...They're Laughing AT You

I have a confession to make.

I can't stop laughing at myself right now. No..wait. That's not my confession. This whole situation is just so silly.

Okay...well one of the things I love most about the power of the internet and blogging is that I've had the opportunity to meet some really great people from all over the world. That being said...my confession is to all my international blog friends. ( I can't believe I'm about to tell you this.) Ummm, well...it's just that...I have a tendency to read your blogs with various accents.

It sounds so strange. I know...I'm rereading this post and laughing because it sounds so crazy. But it's like this...when I'm reading, my internal dialogue takes on the accent from whatever country the writer is from. My favorites are my dear friends across the pond Innocent Bystander and Px, simply because I adore British accents. And if I'm being honest, Autumn ...I'm not sure what Danish people sound like, so I've always given your voice a bit of British flavor since I know you grew up there.

Never fear, I have my own idea of what I think my closer friends sound like too. I give you southern accents, sophisticated voices, quick...northern clips... and the whole 'Fargo' type dialect for Minnesota folks.

LOL. Linny Land is becoming a crazy, crazy place...I think there is going to be a rush to the airport for emergency flights home.

LMAO! That is funny! At least you keep it internal. When I'm around someone with a strong accent my voice suddenly sounds like them. It's funny because they don't ever notice the change and end up asking me if I'm from whereever they are from. It's scary and embarrassing at the same time. I can't help it really!

LOL... so, for Canadians you pause in the middle of a sentence and say eh?... and then pronounce things like about - aboot?

I once read the Lord of the Rings trilogy aloud, giving each character a different accent.

(sigh)

Can I sit by you on the plane?

Definitely laughing at somebody.

I have always found it weird how people can sneeze with an accent.

Linny, I love that you do that!!

Sounds such fun, but not very original if I give it a go this late in the day, I suppose...Nah, won't be able to help it, I'll be thinking about everyone's voices today :)
Completely British accent is right for me and on the snooty side too, rofl.

If you give me a few shots of tequila--my West Virginia twang comes out full force. It's a twang that I learned to suppress while majoring journalism (just in case I wanted to go into broadcast journalism).

Please, don't give me the Minnesota dialect. I have worked oh so hard to get rid of it.

So what kind of accent should we give you?

I am TOTALLY laughing at you right now, girl. That is TOO funny. The thought would've never crossed my mind although now I'm sure I'll do the same thing. ;)
P.S. - to give me a true Maine accent you would need to say "a-yuh, ain't gut none" and pretty much take the "R" out of every word. (For example: I tried to move my traila the otha day but I ain't gut none those hitches I need". ;)
(P.S. I'm one of those Maine-ahs that doesn't talk like that!) :)

I can just see you sitting at your computer reading outloud and scaring your neigbors. (lol)

Oh! you should try doing a Rhode Island accent while reading mine. Basically, just don't pronounce any of your "r"'s. IT's not a pleasing accent at all, and I grew up in Florida, so when I first moved back here, people made fun of my southern twang. I've adjusted somewhere in between, but I still get a kick out of RI accents.

Good post.
