You're Rolling Your Eyes At Me...I Know...
Before anyone even asks...no this is not my home. I live in an apartment...but I'm the type of person that would totally do my house up like this...minus the light up animals.
It was already dark when I started the drive home tonight. I got excited because on the way, I passed so many houses that were completely decked out with Christmas lights. I know a lot of people roll their eyes at these places and think, "Ugh, how gaudy!" I however think they are beautiful. The more lights the merrier.
As Christmas grew nearer, my mom used to pile us into the car at night and drive us around for hours just to look at all the Christmas lights. Truth be told, I think it was the only way she could get us all to sit down and shut up for any length of time. But for whatever the reason, this, along with our holiday movies, became a yearly tradition. I'll be honest, even now at 28 years old, I still drive around and look at all the lights...there is just something very magical about them to me. What can I say? I'm a girl that's afraid of the dark and still owns more toys than her nephew.

I love taking my kids to look at the lights too.. but they're not quiet observers.. they ooh and aahh quite loudly.. so I drown it out with Christmas tunes. :)
I love christmas lights too! I bought 38m worth of fairy lights to put around our courtyard at home, but we didn't get a chance to put them up yet. Geezer said he would have it done before I fly in next Wednesday :)
My wife forces me to go looking at Christmas lights, after a few minutes I relent and find it enjoyable, kind of...
Hey, I'm with you. As soon as I own a house, I will decorate it with Christmas lights every year. The more, the merrier. Displays in the yard and everything! Christmas only comes once a year - why not enjoy it while we can?

I just love lights and na I will never grow out of it either...
Beautiful pic!
Keshi.
Driving around all the neighborhoods is one of my favorite Christmas things to do.
Hubby likes to rate the different neighborhoods.
I like the lights and epecially the memory of going out to look at them. They're another part of Christmas.
I can't say that I was ever very enthralled by grandiose light displays. Call me cynical, but it always seemed like a huge waste of energy to me. However, check out this super sweet one...

What kinds of toys though? ;)
Kidding.
Love the lights too - your mum gave you guys some wonderful memories, another heartwarming, memory lane post - really like these stories.
I like the Christmas light displays, but I wouldn't do too much outside if I had a home.
I am so grinching this year. I won't be with family (or anyone else at this rate) this Christmas. This is only ht esecond year I've not been with family for the holidays.
So this year, no tree, no decorations, no presents, no nothing.
And my heart won't grow three sizes bigger 'cuz some little blonde Who bats her blue eyes at me.
Hmmm, wait, how old is this little blonde Who?
You're my Georgia twin, I swear. There's nothing more awesome than Christmas lights. That was my absolute favorite thing to do growing up, and still I force my husband out every weekend to look at lights. He doesn't get as excited about it as I do though. What's up with that?
I love checking out lights! There is a housing development close by that's called gingerbread lane. Its nicknamed that b/c oh how everyone goes crazy w/ lights and decorations. We'd drive thru w/ my parents on christmas eve, and it was like a parade- cars, trucks, people walking, hot chocolate stands. It was, and still is awesome.
We don't really do "big lights" in Britain... shame really. As kids we all looked very jealously towards American homes and films like Home Alone and all that Christmassy cheer. It's all a bit austere over here. Boooo! We are the country that gave the world Scrooge, so we can't be too surprised!
We had light up reindeer last year. Woke up one morning and they were gone. Just got to love that neighborly christmas spirit. Now we just put out a sign that says, "We gave last year."
You are right. It's beautiful minus the animal lights.
i dont even celebrate xmas, linny, BUT when we lived in cobb county we used to drive down columns drive and through the Atlanta Country Club and look at all the beautiful mansions covered with sparkley lights. It was a great mansion.. if u ever go there, tell me if that pink brick house with the river and gazebo and bridge in the back is still there.. it was a beauty.
i miss atlanta all of a sudden.. weird...
Like you, I've always loved the Christmas lights - although I prefer the static ones to the busy moving ones. Mine will hopefully go up this weekend :-)
For someone so young, you sure come up with lots of great memories to chat about. I like your style.
Me and Ms. Ash, a couple of years ago, went around videotaping houses like that, and called it "A Christmas Lightmare"....We had LOADS of fun driving around, and all you can hear is us laughing in the background. I dont know where that video is...but I'd like to watch it again. LOL
You're missing out... while that display is nice, there's one thing wrong.
No snow.
As much as I bitch about the cold weather, the x-mas decorations just look better on a snow covered house and yard.
I feel ya on this one linny, over the weekend we went out of town and they have "Christmas in the Park" which is all dolled up and even on the lake there was figures in the water, it looked pretty awesome. Glad I took the kids to see it and my grandma too ;)
