And How Would You Like Yours Prepared Sir?

I hate dealing with the craziness of Holiday shopping...the lines, the people. I get annoyed. However, to pass the time I found myself observing all the different types of people that were forcing themselves in front of me, shoving me from behind and running into my buggy. There was a never ending plethora of size and shapes...some lovely...some not so much.

I know this a totally individual taste sort of thing but I was curious as to what type of women most men seemed physically attracted to. For instance...do you go for the voluptuous curves of someone like Beyonce or JLo? Or do you prefer your women to be cute and petite like Evangeline Lily (from LOST)? If I had to choose, I would prefer curvy to skinny...primarily because I am curvy. I once had a guy friend tell me that the difference between my being voluptuous and the other girls being teenie tiny was the difference between being a 'woman' and being a 'girl.' I kissed him.

Where men are concerned...I really don't care for skinny men. Rule #1: My man should NOT be thinner than me. Now, I'm not saying that I want my men to be fat, but I do like them to have a litte meat on their bones...broad shoulders are nice too. I like to cuddle and I want something to hold on to.

Too skinny is never pretty on a man or a woman. Can't say for sure, but from what I observe around me etc, men generally prefer curvy - something they "can hold on to" too :-)

I see no reason to choose between the Lopez or Lily type. They're both beautiful to me. Voluptuous is good, so's petite. I tend to like the former more, but don't discriminate.

Too skinny is yucky, sure, but that's by definition. They're not too skinny if it doesn't turn you off. Lily is fine. Paris Hilton is too skinny to me. And then there's the Kate Moss type, which is both too skinny and too boyish.

JLo, Beyonce, etc., these women are not even remotely fat, so anyone that says they are too big should be slapped.

The reason that women are bone thin is because of the magazines that perpetuate it as being beautiful. Look back on the famous paintings--the women are curvy and volumptuous. J Lo and Beyonce are gorgeous and sucessful. More girls should look up to them--not because of their body shapes, but because of what they emmulate--the power of a dream and the power to achieve.

Petite girls are nice to look at; clothes hang off them nicer, I suppose but I think that's because most of the designers only make clothes for skinny people. Voluptuous women are sexy, they are women really, they have bodies that aren't just for wearing clothes and doing macro-biotic diets but are warm, great to cuddle, better to have sex with, happier people normally but also usually happier being themselves and happier about their bodies (biazrrely - because if you believe fashion magazines, being skinny is the way to be... but if you're skinny, all you do is worry about how to remain skinny and all the things you can't do)

Voluptuous girls are more womanly, more sexy, more comforting, just nicer. I can look at skinny girls and say, yes, they are pretty, they have nice bums, they have nothing sagging, they are good to look at... but terrible to be with normally - sex, attitude, spending Sunday's reading the newspapers with coffee... a bit of meat and the womanly confidence that goes with it is much, much better.

Oh my god, I have written an essay...

There is beauty to be found in all people, size is never an indication of grace, wisdom, or kindness.

Now, that being said, why can't I have quit smoking and NOT gained that extra 10 pounds?

Really enjoy your site, I love that you love to read.

It really works on a case-by-case basis. I find mqny diffrent body types attractive. Some girls are far too skinny, and it makes you wonder for their health. And we have all the seen the other extreme.

But some girls are slim and look beautiful. Other girls have great curves and are gorgeous. Generally speaking, I’d rather a girl with curves than without, but the way anyone looks, male or female, is only a prelude to their personality. I really don’t care how good looking a girl is if she doesn’t have a certain amount of intelligence, a sense of humour, and an innate sweetness to back it up.

In short, looks are the hook, but personality is what will keep me around.

Too skinny doesn't look good on anybody - man or woman. Take Lindsay Lohan for instance - way better with some meat on her bones. Pretty even. Now, she just looks food-starved and bony. And that's no good...

IB...truly enjoyed your essay. :0) However, please keep in mind that voluptuous+curvy does NOT = fat. It just means that instead of having flat chests and flat butts, we have full breasts, round butts and don't look like tooth picks...but certainly not fat.

That's when I knew I was for sure, no doubt about it, "bigger". But hopefully it was gonna be ok.

Hear, hear Linny! Great post.

As a rule, I like bodies that are considered more meaty or curvy. Though I am definitely put off by anyone, male or female, who is too extreme either way- like Paris Hilton or those huge bodybuilders (think 80's Arnold). I only wish our culture could find the beauty in us all instead of making us insecure because of the way we tip the scales.

As for J Lo & Beyonce, I guess "fat bottomed girls" really do make the world go round. Queen was way ahead of their time.

My favorite type of woman is an intelligent, curvy, blogger. Actually, and I know this sounds corny, but personality and face have a lot more to do with how attractive a woman is than anything else. A woman who might be conssider average looking can be unbelieveably sexy and attractive to me based on her personality. Frankly, I don't care what body type a woman has if I like her smile. There's nothing more attractive than a great smile and a great personality.

Great post, Linny. I wonder about this too sometimes.. the extreme thinness that fashion promotes versus real life.

I like curvy girls myself, and for some strange reason, I've recently switched over to blondes.

Ick.

This is troubling me more than you know!

Like the cute little temptress on the Old Navy commercials?

(Sigh)

On a completely different note: I enjoyed your suggestion about making the character in my novel a lesbian.

I may just have to unlock the proverbial closet after all. ;)

he he, I didn't mean fat! I meant girls who have boobs and bums and curves... I didn't mean that if people don't look like Kate Moss, they must be fat!

Curves are good... same as how a little beer belly is good on a man he he

Doesn't matter what shape a person is. What is more important is self confidence. If a person is self confident, he/she will radiate synery that draws others to him/her.

Indeed for the non-skinny man. I have done that before and I prefer something to hold on to.

As far as what men go for. There is someone for everyone in that sense. Some men loved the big Anna Nicole and some men love the new skinnier one. Then there are those that like the Kate Mosses of the world...ick...each to their own.

I used to think that about men, too--I didn't just date tall guys or big guys, I dated bruisers. All four of the last four guys I dated were at least 6'2", and they were all built and huge--the lightest guy was 200 lbs. Two of them were 6'4" and at least 250 pounds, I'd say. Huge. I loved dating the biggest guy in the room.

CAE is also 6'2", but I'd be surprised if he's more than 150. The guy is a bean pole. It's lucky that I just lost some weight, or else we'd weigh the same, which would be teh suck. (And I'm still not skinny--far from it.) Even though I love my body, and even more so now, I'm still very sure that any guy I date should weigh more than I do.

Next topic; blondes vs. brunettes, or even redheads? Why do we obsesse about these things? I used to want to be a flat-chested stick figure in high school, but now I've learned to accept my curves, they seem to be in all the right places, and I figure as long as my husband's ass isn't smaller than mine, then everything's okay!
Good post Linny.
