That's It...I'm Going To Hell

There is a saying that states, "all babies are beautiful." I am here to tell you that, that is a lie.

I adore children and I believe that all babies have an innate sweetness about them. However, this does not make them all pretty.

I visited with an old acquaintance recently and got to meet her new baby girl. When she pulled the blanket back from the stroller...I involuntarily gasped and put my hand to my mouth. She gave me a questioning look and I immediately covered with, "Oh my god...what a sweet baby. Have you ever seen anything so sweet?" Therefore, effectively covering my startlement with feigned awe.

Poor child.

As much as I preach about honesty...this is one time when a little white lie never hurts.

Thanks, insomnia!!

Huh? Oh yeah...ugly babies.

They definitely exist.

Not mine though...says every mother in the whole wide world.

Besides, ignorance is bliss.

As long as they aren't wailing thier lungs out till they are red in the face, I think all babies are pretty!

Babies are always "cute" because they're so tiny, sweet, and innocent. They, however, are not always pretty. Not even close.
But yeah, always cute :)

I agree, I've seen some of those babies. Sometimes I tell weird looking couples they shouldn't reproduce! I feel so bad saying that, but I would feel bad for the kid!

Babies are not real pretty in their first month of life. Some stay that way. Sucks to be them.

I've seen some really ugly babies. The worst was this little baby that looked exactly like Abu, from Aladin. I was SHOCKED. I didn't know what to say, so I came up w/ "aww, he's so small" But, thankfully, ugly babies grow up to be beautiful children :)

Great...I'll see you in hell! But maybe the baby will be lucky - some of the ugly children grow up to be the hottest adults.

I just got here from "Up in Alaska".
The first time I saw my eldest daughter just after delivery I thought she looked like one big wrinkle. She grew up to be absoluty beautifull and modeled profesionally for a while.
Maybe by reading you I can better understand Marguerite, our close friend, forty something, single, urbane, a drama queen with issues.

Babies are wrinkled up when they are born. But get cuter as the days pass and they fill up!

And here is a pretty sparkly bow for your handbasket.

BTW, this is on loan from my handbasket, intricately bedazzled through years of snarkiness.

hahahahaha.. that's so funny. I also don't think all babies are cute. Some are downright ugly and freaky looking.

I feel so guilty when I think that way- like I don't even want to cuddle with this baby because it's so creepy. Terrible, I know.

Physically some babies could be unattractive but that doesnt make them ugly altogether.

I'm shocked at how many people here so happily uttered the word 'ugly' and that too at small babies...wait till u have a physically unattractive baby in ur family - u will all start to worry abt wut u said :)

Dun get me wrong, I dun have such a baby and na I aint physically unattractive either :) but I can never say UGLY to a baby...

Eeeep. Yes, some people are not destined to have beautiful children...but 1) beauty is in the eye of the beholder and 2) beauty is much more than skin deep and 3) that child may be a genious we just don't know it yet.
Besides, some of them "cuten" up as they get older. :)

You make me laugh Linny. Good save, by the way.

Oh my Linny! At least you had a good cover up. Think about... how many other people have done this to this woman? She must think she has the most adorable baby in the world if everyone has covered their initial reaction as well as you did.

I completley agree. I had an experience like that also. I went to go see a friends new baby in the hostpital and when they showed her to me all I could say was "what niced eyes she has" b/c that was the only thing that I could think of that looked ok. I felt so bad for this baby. She had no chance.

I have a seriously messed up mental picture from a tragically ugly baby I saw in the supermarket about 10 years ago. Somebody, Please, enlighten me as to what would cause this: The baby (still within it's first month, maybe?) Had this huge purple tongue sticking out, it was nearly the size of it's head, and the baby's lips were stretched wide to accommodate it. It looked like a baseball mitt. It was dark purple, like it wasn't getting any circulation. The baby was crying and the mother was ignoring it. I peeked in and I swear, all the blood drained from my brain and I thought I would pass out! Thank God I held it together. I really wish I knew what was wrong with that baby and that there is a cure for it.
I'm traumatized all over again just thinking about it.
