And the Girl Pulls Through
I've never had surgery before. So when the nurse inserted my IV and then put the mask flowing with laughing gas over my face, I thought..."Okay...this is it. Remember how you feel at this moment."
But then I realized...I didn't feel anything out of the ordinary. I was waiting for something to strike me as completely hilarious...but it didn't. I glanced over at the nurse as she said, "How's that gas feeling?"
I simply shrugged. "Am I supposed to feel different?"
Perhaps this was the wrong thing for me to say because within moments the doctor appeared by my side and informed me that he would be giving me something that "may" burn a little bit. I am here to say that I have no clear memory of anything after that. Everything else comes in spurts. I remember rolling by the nurses station and seeing them look at me as I was wheeled into recovery. During the blurry view of their faces, I recall hoping I didn't look completely horrible. Some time later my Dad appeared around the corner and I greeted him with a "Hey Dad" through my mouthful of gauze which probably sounded something more like "Ay Ahd."
I felt fine, like nothing had happened. I was ready to run a marathon. I would have leapt out of the chair if they had let me...but alas they would not. (Not that I didn't seriously think about it mind you.)
Most everything else was a blur. I spent most of the last two days sleeping and trying to maneuver my spoonfuls of applesauce around the ice pack that was taped around my head. Iced up or not...I still have chimpunk cheeks and some tenderness but...I am alive and relatively unscathed...for the time being.

Welcome back! Am glad that you survived the experience.
Chipmunk cheeks are the best!!! LOL
Glad it's over and seems to have gone well...Happy liquid dieting :)
I'm glad to hear that it went pretty well. :)
I remember when they pulled out mine last year. She gave me some heavy drug. It felt soooo good. Mid way thru it, I said to the female doctor and her assistant, "so you come here often?" They laughed hard at that.
Glad to see you're feeling not so bad. Make sure to prepare some nachos and other fatty foods for the superbowl :)
Congratulations, yay, dental joy :)
glad to hear that everything went well darlin' ... fell mucho better soon
Get well soon sweetheart, take care... and chipmunk cheeks is a sexy look... don't underestimate it!
Ah, the wisdom teeth removal. Glad you are back and everything turned out ok.
Have fun with that liquid diet!
Just make sure to take ibuprofen regularly. That stuff is great for reducing swelling. It makes a huge difference in recovery times.
Awesome... good to have you back :) Are they having you rince periodically with salt water? First time burns, but you know that it's good for you...
Awww....Yum. I love applesauce. LOL!!!
I once (vaguely) remember stirring on a trolley being wheeled through a hospital, only to realise Little Huw was... er... standing to attention. Dear me.
Good to see you back safe and sound, chipmunk cheeks and apple sause aside :)
Glad you pulled through... do you feel any less wise now?
glad it all worked out.
I was 16 when I had mine done. My whole face swelled and turned black and blue. At school I got called to the nurses office out of class. one of my teachers turned me in thinking I was getting beat up at home or something.
Certs were my life. I lived off those for a week.
Glad things went so smoothly. And hey chipmunks are cute.
Yay! You're alive! I hope you feel better soon. I'd hate to have my diet limited in that fashion. I know all I'd do is crave all the food I couldn't have at that moment.
I hope you pull through this quickly. Feel better soon!
I wish you a quick journey back to the land of the (physically) well.
get well soon! i had 2 root canals and 1 root recession so i hav been thru dental torture! i remember them as few of the worst days of my life!
So happy it went well, Linny me girl!!
Hope you feel completely better and soon. :)
Your friend,
~ Ash
Oh my gawsh Linny! I really must visit you more often. I had no idea.
I do hope you're feeling well. I've had a couple surgeries in my lifetime...I actually enjoy the thought now. That's one of the few places the cellphone can never bother you. haha
Also, I remember that "I can run a marathon" feeling quite well.
I do hope you're not feeling awful.
Drop by when you're up to it.
Much love.
I'm glad to hear your trip to the oral sergeon went ok... I had my wisdom teeth out all at once, all four of them at one shot about nine years ago... The doc gave me WONDERFUL pain meds but the onlt drawback was I could only drink Ensure for about 6 weeks after that which made me the most flatulent person on earth...
Oh I remember when I had my wisdom teeth pulled, I had all four of them taken out at the same time. Oh and while we are on the subject why are they called "wisdom teeth/tooth"? I mean are they supose to provide you with some wisdom? And if so then why the hell do they pull them out? Is it some sicko's idea of a joke? "Haha you don't have any wisdom because I pulled your teeth" I mean come on it just sounds stupid...but I digress...So yeah I got all four pulled out and I too look like a chipmunk, but after a couple of hours I was find and eating steak.
They're called wisdom teeth because they grow in when you are older rather than growing in with your first or second set of teeth in childhood.
It's a fact.
be very, very glad they knocked you out for surgery... i had my wisdom teeth taken out w/just novacaine. SO NOT COOL, OH MY GOD.
I'm glad to hear it wasn't too bad. I am freaking terrified and I've been putting it off too long. My dentist said no more temp fillings in those wisdone teeth, it's time they come out. Whaaaaaaah!
