What Are You Trying To Say?

My heart is about to beat out of my chest.

I am so freaked out right now.

I was sorting through the books on my coffee table when I picked up a notebook that was occupying one of the corners. I was holding it upside down when I noticed a small word scrawled across the bottom of the page.

Suddenly I could feel the blood draining from my face as the black letters stared up at me...letters that appeared foriegn...letters that didn't seem as if they had been born from my hand.

I couldn't move.

Instead, I tried to wrap my brain around what I was looking at and come to some sort of rational conclusion as to how it had come to be there. I know it wasn't there when I bought the book, I'm certain of that. So that led to my initial and most frightening thought, which was that someone had been in my apartment and this was a mind game.

After some serious thinking and an even more serious examination of the 3 locks on my door, I am choosing to rule out the first theory.

The only other possibility was that I had written it some time in the night. I am notorious for having strange dreams and occassionally I'll wake in the middle of the night and hastily scribble notes so that I can recall the dream the next morning. If that's the case, it could explain the unfamilar handwriting. The only bump in this theory is that in all the years that I have been waking up to scrawl notes...I have never written only a single word. Ever.

Yet here it is. One little word.

Carrying so much weight.

It's so FREAKY. No, it wasn't there when I bought it. The notebook came wrapped in plastic and I remember looking at the back and it was blank.

Of all the words in the world...why that one?

....OH MY GOD....remember I sent you that email about that man living in your vents??? The WORD denial, MEANS that you are in denial about someone watching you.

Did you ever see "The Machinest"? Maybe you're schizophrenic, and your alternate personality wrote it...which you're ALSO in denial about....

But I like the first one better...I told you, thats the guy who threw the underwear in the tree out front of your building. He's living in your vents. =)

Do you go to the living room to write things down in the middle of the night? I'd be more likely to write on a notebook that's right beside my bed.

Or.. maybe you wrote it when you were on the couch.. after your oral surgery.. when on the pain meds. Could that be a rational explanation?

Chuckles...no, no flings. If there were, you guys would be the first to hear about it.

Linny, don't listen to PP, there's no one in your vents, and I've had this sort of thing happen before, only to realize what the perfectly rational explaination was a few days later.

I had a boyfriend years ago who had a strange habit of picking up my notebooks and writing notes to me in them on random pages, in the middle, or near the back. I always have a zillion half used notebooks and pads around for school notes. So periodically I'll rip out whatever's in the front of the book, file it and take it to class with me. Every so often I'll turn the page in class and find a note he wrote me. It's strange and nostalgic, it always wigs me out and makes me feel loved all at the same time.

Didnt you ever read the book "kiss the girls"? Its about a serial killer who lives in the attic of a family, and watches them through the vents when they are sleeping, and creeps into their room at night and steals their underwear.

I SWEAR linny....i'd never sleep again if I were you either!!!

Linny - You are american. Go to your local Walmart and buy yourself a firearm. Sleep with it under your pillow. LOL

I'd be worried if I were you too Linny. REALLY....That's so creepy. All of a sudden there's wierd handwriting, that isnt yours, on a book that HAS NOT left your house? And it says a fairly intense word.

What are you in Denial about Linny? The FACT that i'm RIGHT. You are in denial that there is someone watching you while you sleep. I understand, it's a scary prospect....just remember, If you dont blog a few days, i'll know what happened.

Ok...that is it.

Everyone...I would just like to announce that thanks my dear friend Princess here...I WILL NOT BE SLEEPING TONIGHT!!!

I just heard a whistling sound coming from somewhere in the ceiling and nearly jumped out of my skin. I'm keeping the covers pulled over my head!!!

Ha! Don't let them screw with you girl, its not a big deal. You were probably on the phone with someone and wrote that word describing their misguided nature. Alternately, maybe its the name of a movie you wanted to see? a song? credit card application?

Wow! If that is not the coolest thing, I don't know what is! By the way, I do a pretty mean bit of dream analysis if you ever want an assist. For you I'll waive the co-pay.

Wow. Wow. I love stories like that except when they happen to me of course. I assume it isn't your handwriting. A graphologist might detemrine when it was written or by what gender. something similar happened to me but I haven't had time to blog about it. still musing over the irony. my experience was more light hearted. keep us posted.

Wow. I'm thinking some hypnotherapy might be required.
Try reading the word before you go to sleep tonight and maybe the dream will come back and be clearer.

Most dreams are opposites, you know.
Dream of death means birth. Dream of bugs means wealth (go figure). So we'll just have to look up what Denial means.

And furthermore, "denial" may have been something you felt or something you wished for in your dream. It doesn't necessarily mean you are in it or it's being done to you.

I'll look it up and try to figure something out. You keep us updated if you dream of it again.
((((((((((HUGS))))))))))) Do not freak. You subconscious really likes you....really.

Are you denying that you wrote it? Several people have asked but you haven’t answered... you just said it didn’t seem seem to be your hand-writing. Could you have scrawled it while watching TV, or talking on the phone? Maybe you were in the ladies’ room and the notebook was left in front of a friend, either at home or out some place?

Maybe you are being haunted and it is a ghost trying to communicate with you. Watch to see if objects move around the room by themselves, or if the TV turns on by itself. The ultimate sign you are being haunted is if you wake up and find you are levitating above your bed.

Linny my dear, the girl in me is scared for you, but the writer in me says...nice job. (wink-wink)

All about the writing, right?

That, and my guess is you were just seeing how to spell it. Writing it out, perhaps while drugged.

Either way...

Great piece.

Happy Tuesday,
