The Da Vinci Disaster

I decided not to wait until Friday to post my review of "The Da Vinci Code" since I know a lot of people were curious about the movie. Let me just say, if you've never read the book, there is a very real chance that you may find the movie to be ok...but for those of us who did read the book...the movie is a FAR cry from being as entertaining...and it's also too damn long and drawn out.

2 Stars

Film adaptations are notorious for failing to live up to the novels they were based on and “The Da Vinci Code” is no exception. While the book itself propels readers along a thrilling, hunting expedition of sorts, the movie version simply takes your money and kicks you off the bus. I went in expecting a suspenseful tale of history, puzzles and intrigue…what I got was a mind-numbingly dull scavenger hunt. It’s too bad really. They had the opportunity to deliver a huge summer blockbuster and instead they served up Tom Hanks in one of the most lack luster roles of his career.

Oh...I Swear...this couldnt be a more accurate review. I didnt like this movie either.

Infact, the meeting between lagdon and neuveau was so blah compared to the book, that by the time they met, and he listened to her answering machine, I already felt like i'd been watching for an hour. It was like they picked out really crucial elements of the movie, and hacked them to bits...and then put that in the movie....

I'll never question your views on movies...we obviously have similar attitudes....

Well, I'm gonna wait for video, if I bother to see it at all. I loved the book & am now certain that I'd be disappointed if I wasted time going to a theatre to see the movie.

i still don't understand how they could have ruined one of the top 10 of all time books - we're playing the da vinci code drinking game during the movie

Great review. Saved me watching the movie. Thanks for sharing it with us. At least you did not have to pay to see it.

I didn't read the book and I have no plans to see the movie. I knew the movie couldn't possibly capture everything in the book coherently. Your review sounds perfect.

So I guess I'm waiting for video. Should have known they would screw it up.

Thanks u saved us from spending money.

The Happy Days guy Ron Howard was the director right?

I guess they were trying to be as big as passion of the christ....

they are not getting all the best reviews...

but they def. made money.

Lo! But I'm still gotta watch it. Haven't seen Tom Hanks for ages. And I'd bet looking out more for the sights than anything else--imagine touring the Lourve and seeing Mona Lisa without having to fly to Paris....

I have not heard much good about this movie. While I originally was going to wait for video, I don't think I'll even do that anymore.

I liked the Da Vinci Code. The last half was pure fiction...but the first half there was a lot of truth to it. It shouldn't have been sold as an action thriller...but more of a light action documentary.

Yikes. That sounds similar to what I have heard other reliable reviews say though.

Aww, and with Tom Hanks I thought it would be better.
You've made up my mind for me though. I couldn't decide if I should read the book then see the movie. Apparently it is just the opposite. Sounds like the movie will make me appreciate the book much more.
Thanks. :)
