Mommy, Tell Me A Story...
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Linny who loved to write (and for the sake of the story, it should also be mentioned that this little girl loved to see movies too).
Well, one day, a little birdie landed on the ledge of Linny's window and tap tap tapped against the glass pane. When the Linny opened the window, the birdie stuck out it's leg to reveal the small note that was attached.
The note read:
Dear Linny, we would like to pay for you to watch movies and then write about them for our newspaper for everyone to see.
Signed,
Your Local Newspaper
Our local paper has a "Film Fan" section in it's Friday edition. Every week, local residents that have been hired to kind of Free Lance, write a 100 word piece on the movie of the week. They don't pay us much...it's about enough for a ticket, some popcorn and a soda. But that's not why we do it right? We do it because we love to write, we want to see our stuff in print, and at least for me, I love to see movies...especially for free.
I know it's not anything big but it's a small step in the right direction and it's something fun.
UPDATE:
After some serious issues with trying to figure out how to get a link in here w/o screwing up my format....I've have finally mangaged to link the damn review (you're looking for the one by 'Lindsey'...it's at the bottom). *Sigh of relief* They've just e-mailed my assignment for next week...I'll be seeing "Failure to Launch."

i'd love to be a film critic, or hell a critic of any kind

Hi. I wanted to leave a commment on Friday, but I couldn't get your whole blog to show it. It just kept comming up as a template.
Heck yeah, we like to see our name in print. Who doesn't? I use to write for the school paper and kept all the articles that I ever wrote, just cause I thought it was cool to see my name on newspaper paper.
Yey, Just read it!!
way to go!
congrats darlin' ... I still remember the first time I saw my name in print over a story I had written in the paper ...
best wishes for continued success and fun with writing, darlin' ...
Congratulations, review is good too - so easy to just say: "it's rubbish because I just don't like it..." You didn't fall into the trap. Big up yourself... and Snellville... great name of a place to live... much more exciting than my Balham, London!
That is too cool!! Way to go!
Yay you! This is great!
I have a mutual-seeking-out interview tomorrow with a condo sales mag... I hope mine goes as well as your writing has!
As for the no-pay thing, well, this is a start. Who knows where the end is...
Well blow me down! I knew you were print worthy. Today the review, tomorrow... the world! It was a well written, entertaining review in itself. Later when you publish your first book, can I have your autograph?
Super congrats!! (yes, I've been slacking)
I'm so very glad you're doing this. What wonderful fun and experience. I'll be reading your reviews and I hope this leads to even greater endeavors in your future!! :)
