What?

Is it normal for someone to have such a crappy memory? Seriously.

I know you're all thinking...oh on the contrary Ms. Linny. We have read many a post about your childhood and twirling in the backyard like a make believe tornado. Yes, yes. I can remember all of those things and I can probably tell you just about everything my exboyfriend ever said during an argument or a sweet moment (though I think that's just more of a woman thing). But if someone asks me to do something...it is almost guaranteed that I will forget what they requested of me within five minutes.

Fortunately, the girls I work with have all become quite accustomed to my little disability. Any and all requests are not only given verbally but written as well....multiple times. If I tell them they can be out a day the following week, they remind me every day leading up to their off day. Sometimes they'll even call me the night before and say, "Linny, just remember that I'm not going to be there tomorrow okay. I don't want you to freak out when I don't show up." The sad thing is that I have them write this all on my calendar so I can remember...then I inevitably forget to look at the calendar and I'll start pacing the floor wondering why they haven't showed up yet.

And before anyone gets all worry warty..."It's not a tuma...." *Said in my best Arnold Schwarzenegger voice*

My mother and my sister both have miserable memories, so at least I come by it honest.

Ha ha ha -- I haven't heard that repeated correctly for a very long time!!!! I will say it sometimes, and all I get is a blank stare...

Sorry to say, the memory thing doesn't get better. I'm working hard on my Alzheimers Degree every day... say, what were we talking about?

We remember what's important to us. I can remember the most obscure details about a fishing trip ten years ago, but can't remember who my secretary told me to call five minutes ago.

I forget stuff too.. constantly. I have to write things in my planner & then maybe I will remember to actually look in the planner to see what I'm supposed to remember. :) I'm glad it's not just me.. and that it's "not a tuma."

Oh man i'm the same. Mostly when it comes to returning borrowed items from friends. It's not that i do not want to return the items, i do, i just forget. You could call me 5 mins before i leave to remind me....and i will have forgotten.

A memory? What is that? I used to have one a long time ago, but I seem to have lost it!

you're rediculous. LOL

But I also have a horrendous short term memory.....not to the extent that you do, but still, its not good.

However, ask me where I was 10 years ago, and what I was wearing i can tell you no problem.

I have a great memory. I'll occasionally forget to do something, but actual memories, like the past, and names and birthdays and stories and movies and such...it all comes back to me and quick.

So anyways, it's probably hereditary and no big deal, so "Tuma" jokes aside, don't go dropping the A word just yet. My grandmother had a great memory before all that set in. Here's hoping you never have it. Don't forget. ;)

Your friend,
~ Ash

it's often said that most intellegent people are forgetful about the simplest of things
so...relax, it's not that you're forgetful, you're just clever :o)

Your post reminds me of a Dave Berry column that I heard years ago. I tried looking for it, but I can't find it. Do you ever read him? He is hilarious! Anyway, his column was talking about the things that people are expected to remember. On part in particular he was explaining when he got to the grocery store and forgot what his wife sent him to get, but he cold tell you what the score was to a football game (or something...) that was 16 year before.

I guess what I'm trying to say was... I liked your post.

I know what you are talking about, although I don't think I'm as bad yet. I remeber all the things from years ago but not last week. I worry it is Alzheimer peeking up. My mom tells me she used to have a great memory but now it is awful. I don't ever want to be that way, but I fear that is where I am headed.

I'm known for writing things I need to remember on the back of my hand. It's the only way!

Hey I have the same horrible memory for simple things in the short-term. Although I have trained my self to write things down and that seems to work.

Your memory sounds just as bad as mine. I can walk out of a meeting, and as soon as I step past the threshold of the room, I will have completely forgotten what I was supposed to do. I started taking really good notes, and also using Post-It notes and scrap paper for notes all the time as well. That really helped.

A while later though I realized that I never actually looked at my notes, and I was constantly throwing away bits of scrap paper that I never read. So I stopped taking notes, and stopped writing things down on scrap paper. Soon I found I was forgetting things again.

I realized that the mere act of writing something down, whether I read it or not, was enough to move things from short term to long term memory.

I'm about the same way... I have an agenda which has been playfully nicknamed my "Life" by anyone who knows me. Everything is written down in there from doc appointments, to classes and where they are, to which day the garbage goes out. If I ever lost that... I'd be toast. I don't have a back up life... now I'm all paraniod...
