Movie Marathon

Unless you want to spend the day watching football or golf (which I don't), Sunday television absolutely blows. So I decided that I was going to have a movie marathon day. I pulled out some of my favorites from my collection and then rented a few I had never seen before. I have to admit that I am a bit of a movie loving freak. Aside from my books, my movie collection is one of my most valued possessions.

Anywho, so I curled up on the couch with my blanket...snacks and mountain dew on the coffee table and I pop in my first rental, "Sahara"...let me just say that this was one of the crappiest movies I have seen in a long time. What was Matthew McConaughey thinking? It was boring, rediculous and a waste of my $4.25 at Blockbuster.

I got annoyed, tossed Matthew aside and decided to continue on with some of my favorites: Jumping Jack Flash, The Notebook, Bridget Jones, The Count of Monte Cristo and Big Trouble in Little China. All in all, a good amount of laughing and crying ensued for the rest of the day.

I saved my other rental for last...."The Wedding Date." This was actually a cute little date movie. There's a scene where Dylan McDermott says, "I think I'd miss you, even if we had never met..." Awwwwww! *Swoon* Now why don't real men say things like that?

Luurrrvveee Dylan McDermot! You didn't mention it was him, which now makes me want to see that movie even more!
Sounds like a great day :-) I want one of those.

I'm with dzer. Big Trouble in Little China is the best movie in that list! I would have watched it twice if I were you!

It's all in the reflexes

Kurt Russel was gold in that movie!

(although I did secretly enjoy The Notebook too. Mostly because of James Garner, he's classic man.)

I loved the movie "The Notebook" I totally cried in that one. I also rented Sahara a month ago. It was ok but not the best movie I had seen him in, or Penelope Cruz. I think she did really good in Capt. Corelli's Mandoliln (I don't know if I spelled that right) Anyway, that was a good movie that she did.

And Courtney, there are men that exist like this. I know b/c I have one and I'm not letting him out of my sight. :)

First of all, folks, "Sahara" with Matty Mc was NOT a remake of the Bogart film. They just happen to share the same name. The new "Sahara" was based on a book by Clive Cussler a dime novel style writer.

Second, any guy who claims to like "The Notebook" is shamelessly trying to score by pretending to be sensitive or is gay.

Third, if a guy said that to you in real life, most women would think it just some line he was using to make you swoon. That line smells worse than a diaper.

Fourth, there aren't many Kurt Russell movies that are bad. "The Thing" and BTiLC are truly awesome impulse movies. If you have some time and are out of books, those movies rock like "Red Dawn". Although, Kurt Russells' latest movies seem to be sucking a bit. "Sky High", please, I'd have to be high to see that movie.

My dear Chuckles...

As a woman...let me inform you of how we think. If a man 'we liked' used that line on us..we would fall head over heels. We want men to say and do romantic things. Where we get annoyed is when 'weirdo' guys we're not interested in try using those lines on us.

And second...I don't normally have particular fondness for Kurt Russell movies...this is the only one I really liked.

And third...who cares whether there was an original or not...the movie still sucked.

Chuckles...(as in what you must get in bed I assume)

I didn't mind The Notebook, as mentioned earlier, however I am not trying to get these women in bed and I am most certainly not gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Appreciating a movie has nothing to do with one's sexuality, unless of course you are uncomfortable with yours.

And what does Kurt Russel have to do with 'Red Dawn'. He's not in that movie. I watched 'Sky High' with my daughters and we all agreed it was a good kids movie too.

Looks like I am the only one, but I thought that "The Wedding Date" was the one of worst movies I have ever seen in my life.

But, The Notebook...forgetaboutit. Crying for days.

"Red Dawn" is a fantastic movie in the same class as BTiLC or "The Thing". They are all great movies for an afternoon on the couch. I made no claim that Kurt Russell was in the movie, only that they are all awesome impulse buys.

Dan, like most men you've already been chemically neutered by all the scented products floating around your house. It isn't personal, it just happens to guys that get bombarded with images of ponies and "The Princess Bride". Every man has a breaking point before he buckles.

My main problem is that a lot of these allegedly romantic movies have the lowest expectations of the audience. "Gee, we can't expect the audience to understand full sentences or anything more than the lowest attempt at a gut reaction."

If you want a movie that will elicit a true emotional reaction try any of these:
Playing by Heart (Young A. Jolie, et al)
Next Stop Wonderland (Hope Davis, PS Hoffman)
Savior (Dennis Quaid)
Gods and Monsters (Brendan Fraser and Ian McKellan)

Oh and thanks for taking the low road. I am always gratified when the only response an interlocutor has is an insult.

chuckles my man, you suggested I was gay for liking The Notebook. I just chose to follow in your path in order to speak at your level.

For some reason I thought you were suggesting Kurt Russel was in Red Dawn, perhaps because you mentioned him in the same sentence. In fact, throughout the paragraph.

Anyway, no chemical neutering here. It sounds to me like you've been huffing those chemicals yourself though. I'd step away from the glue if I were you.

Ok. Enough slumming. We've insulted each other and had a few laughs at your expense. Let's move on now.

Hi Linny!!

Great movie choice, Linny. Loved The Notebook, Count of Monte Cristo, and the original Bridget, not the sequel. Have you seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding? A total chick flick but pretty good.

I'll echo what seems to be the consensus here: BTiLC was great. Linny, do you have green eyes?

Also, I think the ordering of names on the Sahara picture is funny. It's as if they're labelling Penelope Cruz as Steve Zahn and vice versa. Silly designers.

Oh Cheryl...go get it!! You cannot listen to PP when it comes to these types of movies. She only likes it when someone's head is being cut off and you're being chased with chainsaws.... :0)

She's very kinky like that.
