No, Seriously...That's TOO Much Sharing

For some random reason today I thought back to a night a few years ago when my boyfriend at the time and I came home after a party and were getting ready for bed. While he changed clothes in the bedroom, I headed into the bathroom to brush my teeth. However, just as I was squeezing toothpaste onto my brush he walks in and heads for the toilet. Toothbrush in hand, I turned around and walked right back into the bedroom and waited on the edge of the bed for him to finish. I didn't have to wait long because he poked his head out and asked me what I was doing. Calmly, I replied..."just waiting for you to finish so I can brush my teeth." He laughed, grabbed my arm and proceeded to pull me into the bathroom only to head back over to the toilet. I groaned and tried to leave again only to have him catch my arm.

"Linny, how long have we been dating now?" I raised an eyebrow and said, " Three years." "Exactly. We have been together for three years, we should be able to do things like this and not feel uncomfortable. There is no reason you can't brush your teeth while I'm in here." Then he folded his arms across his chest and looked as if he had made some moving proclamation. I however tossed a washed cloth at his head as I strolled out the door and told him to let me know when he was finished.

Now, I know most couples have no problem with this sort of thing but I guess I'm just more of a private person. I have no interest in carrying on a conversation with you while you pee next to me and I REALLY don't want you present while I'm in the bathroom. A prude I may be but that is not one of the times I want you to whip it out.

I HATE it when anyone even tries to talk to me while I am peeing, let alone actually be in the bathroom with me.
Exception - when I have been drinking. Then I am the talker. I lose all sense of boundaries at that time.

Is that why we're still single?

Linny, I am SOOOO much the same way... I am a virgin and I am unbelievably modest! I am embarrassed to let my doctor inspect anything in my nether-regions, and I sure as anything haven't ever brushed my teeth while my guy is taking a whiz. (And I don't have any desire to, either!)

I think we just have high standards!

Perhaps i'm the odd one out then. It does not bother me at all, in fact there has been many a time while a friend is putting on make-up and another is going to the bathroom when we are getting ready for a night on the town. I recall years ago a friend in the washroom and another one brought in nachos and we ate and chatted LOL.

and then the sink and then i say... ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

its ok.. at least he didn't ask to poop in front of you. i've heard of couples that do that apparently... i NEVER want to have that type of comfort.. u know what.. pooping is my only alone time.. i think i'd like to leave it as that. :)

lol, what brought on that thought :-)

Doesn't bother me, (can't believe I'm going to willingly expand on this topic and against my better judgement!!) not diddledees anyways, diddledums have a whole different set of rules and call for privacy on both sides.

It is not the actual peeing that bothers me although now that I think about it I do not think I a=have ever seen my boyfriend of 4 years poo???

It is wipeing! I just cannot wipe in front of him and would prefer he not do it in front of me. I let him stay in the bathroom until I am done, then he has to go so I can wipe.

Pooping is way out of bounds. As for pissing, well, since I seem to just piss all over the bathroom anyway, it is probably safer to be in a different room. Unless you are an R.Kelly fan.

And that is just awful.

I gew up with my brothers never closing the door when they tinkled, and although it never bothered me I will always find it repulsive.

the only time i like to be in the bathroom with someone is when we're sharing a bath/shower...and even then i like to be on my own for a while
it's not being prudish or anything like that, it's simply a case that the bathroom is a private room

heh heh on a side note my word verification was fckupu

That never seems to bother me... Don't know why. I won't look at the person while they're "taking care of business" but I can still talk to them.
But you did the right thing for you. If it bothers you, then stand up for yourself! It's good that you could do that.

It mostly doesn't bother me. It just depends on how my day is going but usually I could care less. But there are other things that I have pet peeves on. Like if I'm in the shower and the baby needs to be changed, don't bother me. He can do it. It's my relaxation time.

I didn't get used to that either, until we actually lived together in a one bedroom, one bathroom apartment. I learned quickly just not to care at all about that kind of thing :)

Linny, I am just like you. Even though I'm not uptight or anything, when it comes to a boyfriend peeing in front of me, I would rather not see it.

I have no problem with any of that stuff. I have no problem if someone is talking to me on the phone while in the bathroom peeing either. I think it's natural stuff that everyone does so let's stop pretending we don't and just let it be part of life :)

But I respect people who are uncomfortable and do not expect them to share.

I have no problem with it if he's standing up, but I"ll be DAMNED if I will NOT have a problem with him getting ready to sit down.

Absolutely not a prude. Andy and I do NOT share a bathroom when either one is on the toilet. That's just too personal. Great if you are Ok with it but definitely not something I would force upon a partner.

I FEEL THE SAME WAY and my boyfriend doesn't understand what my hang up is about it. i don't care if my girlfriends pee while i'm in the bathroom, or hell even other guys, but let's try to keep SOME things a little romantic, shall we?? :-)

I just recently started brushing my teeth in front of my boy and that's after 3 years!! Actually using the bathroom in front of him, never gonna happen.

Katie - It's like they don't think that we need some time to ourselves and they couldn't imagine having to change a diaper or take care of a crying baby. I always tell my husband that my job is 24/7. I don't get a break from the kids. That usually works.
